Welcome to Schreiter - Sandrock Funeral Home
![]()
Levi Erb Siebert was a journeyman cabinet maker until he established himself in business as an undertaker in July 1883. His funeral home was on Ontario Street, between King Street and Weber Street.
In 1902, A.G.Schreiter purchased the furniture and funeral business from the Simpson Co. in Kitchener. Levi Siebert sold his business in 1912 and became the manager of the funeral department at Schreiter's. Armand Schreiter, the son of A.G. Schreiter, trained as a funeral director in 1916, but chose the furniture business over the funeral career. Levi Siebert resigned as manager of the Schreiter Funeral Home in 1929, after 42 years of service, yet still remained part of the staff. Schreiter's moved the funeral business into the E.P. Clement home. The home was of average size and appearance of any 19th century home and was conveniently located at Church and Benton Streets.
Mr. Sandrock had an extensive background in funeral services. During World War I, he was in charge of embalming and shipping of bodies from Camp Cody, New Mexico to points throughout the U.S.A. He was employed by many funeral homes before moving to Kitchener, Ontario. In 1939, Arthur Sandrock purchased the funeral home from the Schreiters and it became known as the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home. Mr. Sandrock created a large addition on top of the garage for offices, coffee lounge and a new selection room, in 1962. In 1967, Arthur Sandrock sold the funeral home to local men, Jerome Futher, and Douglas Hallman. Douglas Hallman sold his shares in 1972 to his partner. Jerome Futher chose to retire in 1998.
In 1981, the two hundred seat chapel, two visitation rooms and a lounge were added. This construction was finished in 1982. Recently, receptions in the funeral home have become more popular and as a result a reception room, known as the "Heritage Room", was completed in 1992. Today, Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home has one of the largest Chapels in the city and has room for seven visitations at one time. We are proud to be part of the Dignity Memorial® national network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers. We are committed to exceeding expectations and delivering a standard of service that is 100 percent guaranteed.
